Today, 25 September 2025, Ilmatar joins thousands of organisations in a global flag-raising campaign to demonstrate its commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

For us at Ilmatar, raising the flag also symbolises our core mission: building a cleaner energy system and accelerating the clean transition of society.

Exactly ten years ago, the UN’s 193 member states adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals guide global efforts towards sustainable development between 2016 and 2030.

This is the third time Ilmatar marks the global SDG flag day, reaffirming its long-term commitment to these goals, raising awareness of the UN’s agenda, and encouraging change across society. We are transforming society through Nordic renewable energy.

Renewable energy as part of the Sustainable Development Goals

We produce wind and solar power, increasing the share of renewable energy and driving forward the clean transition in the Nordics. Through energy storage, we strengthen system flexibility and ensure clean energy is available even when the wind isn’t blowing or the sun isn’t shining. Our renewable energy projects also enable strengthen Nordic investment. By developing our energy system, we are building the foundation for a more sustainable society.

At Ilmatar, we particularly advance eight of the UN Sustainable Development Goals that are most relevant to our business: Good Health and Well-being (Goal 3), Affordable and Clean Energy (Goal 7), Decent Work and Economic Growth (Goal 8), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (Goal 9), Responsible Consumption and Production (Goal 12), Climate Action (Goal 13), Life on Land (Goal 15), and Partnerships for the Goals (Goal 17).

Goal 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy – is directly linked to Ilmatar’s core business. According to the UN, ensuring access to energy for all by 2030 requires accelerating electrification, increasing investment in renewable energy, and improving energy efficiency.

The 2030 Agenda is already more than halfway through, but unfortunately, only 15% of the targets are on track at the current pace. This is a worrying situation. The world needs more ambitious action from governments, municipalities, companies, organisations, and other actors to achieve the SDGs. Ilmatar will continue its work to advance these goals – and challenges all Nordic energy players to join us.
