In June, Ilmatar was the main sponsor of the children’s and youth Finnish baseball camp organized by Kajaanin Pallokerho (KPK). The extended weekend camp brought together about a thousand young participants to enjoy the positive energy, joy of exercise, and camaraderie that the sport creates.

For Ilmatar, it is important to be an active player in the communities where it operates. In Kajaani, Ilmatar is planning the Löytösuo 27-turbine wind farm, which would bring local benefits including employment, as well as tax and lease revenues. We also support non-profit activities in our project municipalities, as cooperation creates mutual benefits and shared values.

A Summer Highlight for Enthusiastic Players of the Sport

The national Finnish baseball camp held in Kajaani in June gathered 65 teams—about a thousand children and youths aged 11–14 from all over Finland. The event was full of joy, community spirit, and great energy—exactly the values Ilmatar aims to promote in its project municipalities.

“Finnish baseball camps are eagerly awaited annual events with a very special atmosphere. What sets the Finnish baseball camp apart from other sports is how widely and enthusiastically participants come from all around the country. For Finnish baseball, the camp has become a very important part of the summer,” says Riku Lokka, who was organizing the camp.

At the heart of the camp were the Finnish baseball matches, played on the field named Ilmatar Arena. The program also included shared free time, important team-building activities, and a trip to Sotkamo to watch a Superpesis game.

Supporting the Community Is Part of Ilmatar’s Mission

Corporate partnerships play a vital role in ensuring the operation of sports clubs and enabling events.

“Ilmatar’s sponsorship was very important. The camp work is done voluntarily, but there are still many different expenses that our support has helped cover. Big thanks to you for that,” says Lokka.

Ilmatar’s operations create positive impacts in project municipalities.

“During the construction phase, we use local services and employ regionally, and the turbines generate property tax revenue for municipalities and lease income for landowners. Our support activities focus especially on the well-being and physical activity of children and youth. The Kajaani Finnish baseball camp was a great example of how we can support the well-being of children and young people in our project municipalities,” says Project Development Manager Timo Laitinen.
