Pride Month in June is a reminder of human diversity and the importance of equity. At Ilmatar, these values are not limited to just one month. We want Ilmatar to be a workplace where everyone feels valued, safe, and seen as their authentic selves—every day of the year.

We believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are the foundation of a healthy work culture and a thriving community. The Pride movement highlights the rights of sexual minorities and the importance of acceptance, and we wanted to show our support for equity in a way that was small but meaningful to us.

A Splash of Color for a Message of Inclusion

We encouraged Ilmatarians to take part in a voluntary campaign where everyone could express the values of inclusion and equity in their own colorful way. Many brought brightness to the workday by wearing vibrant colors, rainbow-themed accessories, temporary tattoos—or even makeup.

We also asked our colleagues what Pride and its values mean to them. Here’s what some shared:

“In an ideal world, no one’s gender identity would be a topic of attention—it would simply be one part of who they are. But Pride remains a necessary reminder that understanding, respect, and fairness are still not a given for everyone and everywhere.”

“Some words carry more than one meaning – and sometimes, all of them matter. Equity is one of those words at Ilmatar. To us, it means both financial stability and everyday fairness – a value that goes beyond equality. While equality offers the same to everyone, equity recognizes individual needs and starting points, and provides support accordingly. At Ilmatar, this is reflected in our culture and actions: we’re building a community where everyone can belong, grow, and thrive.”

“Wellbeing at work starts with being able to be yourself in your workplace.”

Equity in Action

At Ilmatar, fostering inclusion is part of our everyday learning and decision-making. We are committed to promoting equity and non-discrimination in everything we do—from identifying barriers to actively strengthening inclusion.

In 2024, we updated our Equality and Non-Discrimination Plan, which is now also in use in Sweden. We also offer DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) training to our employees, because awareness and understanding don’t always come automatically.

We want to ensure that everyone can be heard, understood, and accepted in our workplace—just as they are.
