What is your role at Ilmatar?
I work at Ilmatar as an HR Manager, and my area of responsibility covers the diverse field of HR, including recruitment. I often describe my work as encompassing everything along the employee lifecycle—from onboarding to offboarding and everything in between. During my time at Ilmatar, my responsibilities have expanded, and the focus areas shift according to the needs of the organization.
My workdays are very varied, and this diversity is one of the best parts of my job! I enjoy diving into broader strategic topics as well as solving everyday practical matters—building a successful employee experience is a combination of all of this.
This year, for example, I spent a couple of weeks at our wind farm in Alajärvi organizing Ilmatar Camps for all employees, helped define leadership principles together with management, team leads, and the whole staff, and recruited new Ilmatarians. This week, my desk has been occupied with a very hands-on and concrete task: salaries.
How do you enjoy working at Ilmatar? What’s the best part of being one of us?
When I started at Ilmatar, I said I became an Ilmatarian because I felt that the company embodied key values that matter to me: responsibility, people, and growth & development. Over the past 3.5 years, I’ve had the opportunity to grow professionally and develop Ilmatar’s HR and organizational culture. I also get to be part of a fantastic work community and collaborate daily with highly skilled colleagues. Ilmatar and Ilmatarians are important to me, and I find it truly meaningful to be part of building Ilmatar’s story. So yes—I enjoy it very much.
Briefly describe your career before Ilmatar
My career before Ilmatar has been strongly HR-oriented. I worked briefly in recruitment consulting, but soon realized my passion for in-house HR was growing stronger, and I transitioned to an HR Specialist role at the Energy Authority.
Briefly describe your educational background
I hold a Master’s degree in Administrative Sciences from Tampere University, with a focus on Human Resource Management and Workplace Wellbeing.
The best lesson you’ve learned in your career?
Ask—don’t assume. A lesson that applies both at work and in everyday life. We often make assumptions too easily and treat them as truths. Unnecessary misunderstandings and overthinking can be avoided through open dialogue and the courage to ask.
