“Every problem can be solved, and every problem needs to have its own approach style. If there is a team involved it’s nice to brainstorm ideas together.”

What is your task at Ilmatar, what kind of different things and tasks do your working days include?

I’m part of the physical trading team and work as a back-office manager. As you can see from the words in the title, my job is related to trading results. The main part is to check that we have a balance between all the markets and that there are no differences in volumes, everything counts. We have fully automated calculation systems, but we still must monitor and develop them according to market demand. Another part is our balanced responsible services, where you can meet customers related to them, including trading, balance services and guarantees of origin.

How do you like it at Ilmatar? What do you enjoy most about being part of the Ilmatar team?

I started working at Ilmatar in mid-May 2023 and it has been very interesting so far. A lot of new things. And the tasks I am working with are quite different from the ones I have worked with before. It has also been great to meet so many new people. The working environment is interesting and Ilmatar has so many new projects that I am excited to see what the future holds. It has been a nice journey so far.

Tell briefly about your career before Ilmatar

I used to work in electricity retail in a Nordic company where we did not have our own production and we worked with electricity markets. So, it was a different approach compared to my work now, which is about our own production.

I have been working in the energy industry since 2004. I did my thesis for a Finnish grid company, and then I went to work at an energy service provider company, where I worked with the Swedish energy markets. Soon after that I started working with the Finnish markets as well. For the last 12 years I have been working with a Nordic electricity retail company, where I have had the pleasure of working with Norway and Denmark as well as Finland and Sweden.

What kind of educational background do you have?

After graduating from Sipoo high school I went to the army. After that year I started my studies at Arcada University of applied sciences where I studied electrical engineering, economics, and process engineering. During the Covid pandemic I studied image and video processing as kind of like a hobby.

Best lesson you have learned during your career?

Problem solving is one of the most significant lessons I have learned. Every problem can be solved, and every problem needs to have its own approach style. If there is a team involved it’s nice to brainstorm ideas together. Problem solving is easier together with people. That is something valuable I have learned in my working life.
