“Decisions should be made boldly based on the available information to keep things moving forward – there’s no need to wait for complete certainty.”

What is your role at Ilmatar, and what kind of tasks and responsibilities does your work include?

I work as a Project Development Manager at Ilmatar, responsible for developing selected solar and wind power projects into fully developed projects ready for investment.

Currently, my workload includes several solar projects and a handful of wind power projects at different stages of development. My work involves extensive stakeholder management—from local communities and authorities to decision-makers and consultants—as well as reporting, scheduling, and budgeting. Additionally, I travel to project locations across Finland, making gas stations and municipal offices familiar sights.

I joined Ilmatar in 2022 as a Project Developer, initially working alongside a more experienced colleague. As I took on more responsibilities, I soon started managing my own projects, which led to my promotion to Project Development Manager.

How do you like working at Ilmatar? What is the best part of being one of us?

The most rewarding aspect is the meaningful work in advancing the green transition. Ilmatar has a great work atmosphere and a strong drive for action—we get a lot of good things done. Everyone is given both responsibility and the freedom to drive their projects forward in the way they see best.

Briefly describe your career before Ilmatar

Right after graduating in 2019, I started my career in the wind power sector with my first permanent job at St1’s wind power team. At that time, St1 was operating Tuuliwatti’s portfolio, and I had the opportunity to closely follow its divestment process. At St1, I worked with operational wind farms, first as an analyst focusing on production analysis and reporting, and later as an asset manager, responsible for wind farm production and customer relations. I became deeply familiar with wind farms, and the industry captivated me. Now, in project development, my perspective has shifted—every step brings us closer to a successful, operational wind farm

Briefly describe your educational background

I hold a Master of Science (Tech.) in Energy Engineering. I graduated from Aalto University at the end of 2019, focusing heavily on renewable energy production during my studies. My master’s thesis explored electricity markets.

The most important lesson you’ve learned in your career?

Often, no one knows the “right” answer, so it’s worth taking on new challenges with confidence. Learning to embrace uncertainty is crucial—you can move things forward more effectively by making decisions based on the information available rather than waiting for complete certainty.
