Ilmatar’s work wellbeing day focused on strengthening both the mind and body, and above all, enjoying relaxed togetherness with colleagues. By participating in the revitalizing activity day of the sports academy Urhea, we were also able to support the training opportunities and development of young top athletes, in line with our values.

On a sunny day in May, Ilmatar employees gathered to spend a joint work wellbeing day at the Urhea campus, located in Mäkelänrinne, Helsinki. The theme of the event was recharging our batteries and refreshing ourselves, fitting perfectly with our field.

At the beginning of the day, we delved into mental wellbeing. The lecture “Building Resilience at Work for Better Work-Life Balance” offered concrete ways to recover mentally and strengthen resilience – skills that are invaluable in a changing and demanding work environment.

After focusing on the mind, it was time for the body. During the activity session following the lecture, Ilmatar employees got to try gentle stretching, the basics of judo and self-defense, park exercise, and calming sound bowl meditation.

“Employee endurance and wellbeing are a central part of sustainable and responsible working life at Ilmatar. A thriving team is enthusiastic and committed, as well as creative and enduring in the continuous development of working life. That’s why we want to organize events where it’s allowed to take a breath and strengthen both individual and community resources,” says HR coordinator Sari Hakala, who was responsible for organizing the event day.

Supporting Top Sports

Urhea is a national sports academy, and the Olympic Training Center Helsinki operates in conjunction with it. It is a unique center combining sports and studies, where hundreds of top athletes train daily.

The work wellbeing day was not only a refreshment for our own team but also a way to support Finnish top sports in a financially, responsibly, and socially significant way.

“We wanted to organize a work wellbeing day that combined exercise, community, and an inspiring environment. The diverse exercise opportunities and the relaxed atmosphere of the day received a lot of praise from the participants. The event offered a much-needed break from everyday life and an opportunity to get to know colleagues in a new way. Additionally, the spirit of top sports emanating from the event venue perfectly matched our goal of providing the staff with an energizing and motivating experience,” Sari explains.

The event demonstrated Ilmatar’s social responsibility through practical actions. We invested in the wellbeing of our most important resource, our staff, and at the same time, we had a great opportunity to financially support the activities of young top athletes, the stars of the future.

“At Ilmatar, we believe that wellbeing is created in everyday life – not through individual actions, but through a culture where everyone can thrive. We want to create an environment where people feel good, can develop, and endure – both at work and outside of it. When wellbeing is part of everything we do, it generates energy that carries far.”
