Ilmatar Offshore’s Regional Manager Anna Häger is one of the speakers as Åbo Akademi kicks off this year’s Europe Forum in Turku. She will participate in a panel discussion on offshore wind power (OSW) in the Baltic Sea. The theme for the event is Finland’s and the EU’s position in the changing international order. Speakers at the event include the Prime Minister of Finland Sanna Marin, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto and Jyrki Katainen, President of the Finnish innovation fund Sitra.

“It is a huge honour to be in such a prestigious company. My contribution to the discussion concerns the great responsibility that comes with the development of new green energy solutions”, says Anna Häger.

Taking place on August 24 to 26, the Europe Forum in Turku opens the political season in Finland and serves as a forum for discussion between citizens and decision-makers. At the event, politicians, organizations, businesses, experts and citizens engage in an open and science-based dialog on the future of Finland and Europe.
Ilmatar Offshore’s Anna Häger participates in a panel discussion titled “Local meets global in the European energy transition: Perspectives on offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea”.

Key questions

“It is said that the most valuable asset we have in the Nordic countries is the trust we have in each other and in society. It is also said that offshore wind power is the new green gold. So how can we avoid getting stuck with protracted processes that halt innovation and development while remaining undazzled by the economic opportunities and breaking off from the unsustainable energy economy we have created? These are the questions I have devoted my life to, both as a student and in my professional career. This is what I make happen at Ilmatar Offshore, and now I have a brilliant chance to talk about it at the Europe Forum”, says Anna Häger.

“Finland aims to be climate neutral by 2035. This goal requires cooperation throughout society, not just politicians and governments but all actors from top to bottom. With the superb preconditions we have in the Nordic countries, we can become a global example in making the energy transition a reality by combining societal trust, local driving forces and synergies from public-private-partnerships. This energy transition model has the potential to become an export good almost as valuable as the wind energy we harvest.”
