Next October, one of the largest film productions ever carried out in Finland – Stormskärs Maja – will start on Åland. Ilmatar is one of the main sponsors.
– The film production of Stormskärs Maja by Solar Films stimulates the local business community and creates a ripple effect that resembles those that will be created by offshore wind in the future. The project is well aligned with our values, says Anna Häger, Regional Manager of Ilmatar Offshore.

Ilmatar and its Åland-based subsidiary Ilmatar Offshore are among the main sponsors for the upcoming film Stormskärs Maja by Solar Films, written by Tiina Lymi based on and inspired by the original novels by Anni Blomqvist. The filming starts on October 10th, and to capture all the seasons of the archipelago, the team works on Åland all the way until midsummer. Ilmatar Offshore’s Regional Manager Anna Häger is very proud of the collaboration:

– To carry out such a huge production on Åland creates a ripple effect that resembles the one that will be prompted by offshore wind in the future. It stimulates local businesses even outside of tourist season and will benefit many entrepreneurs, from construction workers to hotels and catering firms that serve the production team. This is a great value match for Ilmatar Offshore.

Lends its name to wind parks

While Ilmatar is stepping in as a main sponsor for the production, the wind parks planned for construction in the Åland Sea are being given names.

– Stormskär has for a long time been our internal working title for the area furthest out in the Åland Sea, a place that has been marked as suitable for offshore wind. Our collaboration with Stormskärs Maja is of course decisive in the matter – and now the working title Stormskär will become the official project name. The second planned park in the Åland Sea is called Väderskär, Anna Häger explains.

– Of course, in Janne and Maja’s day, there were no wind turbines on the horizon. But folks in the archipelago have never been afraid of doing new things. They learn, they adjust and they do what is needed to survive in their times. This is also why we have decided to name each turbine in the wind park after women from Åland who have lived demanding lives similar to that of Stormskärs Maja. This is our way of paying tribute to those who came before us and challenged the sea. They deserve to be acknowledged as the great sources of energy they were, in their time and their surroundings.
