Background
Alajärvi Louhu 2
Alajärvi – FinlandIlmatar is preparing a solar power plant complex for the Möksy and Louhukangas wind power sub-planning areas in Alajärvi. By locating solar power alongside wind power, land use efficiency can be maximised and synergies can be achieved, for example by using existing electricity transmission systems. Solar power also balances energy production, especially during periods of low wind.
The Alajärvi solar park complex is divided into four geographically separate parts, two in the Möksy wind power sub-area and two in the Louhukangas area. The building permits for Möksy 1 and Louhukangas solar power plants have become legally binding. The Möksy 2 site will be licensed during 2024. In addition to the traditional fixed tilt angle racks, the second solar power site in Louhukangas will be equipped with reactive tilt angle racks (“trackers”) that tilt with the sun. Construction of the solar power plant could start in 2024, with commercial operation possible by 2026 at the latest.
