A solar power plant is being planned in the Tervakoski area of Janakkala. The proposed capacity is 78 MWp, and commercial operation is expected to begin no earlier than 2027.
Janakkala Tervakoski
Janakkala – Finland
The project is located on agricultural land east of the Hämeenlinna motorway, spanning approximately 1.5 kilometers. It is part of a larger development that includes the Riihiviita project on the Riihimäki side. The Tervakoski project consists of three separate sub-areas, designated A, B, and C from north to south. The municipality of Janakkala granted building permits for these areas in March 2024. The permit for the southernmost area C is already legally valid, while the legal validity of permits for areas A and B is expected in early 2026.
The designated construction areas are primarily farmland, with one small forested section included. Special attention has been paid to landscape integration during the permitting process to ensure the project blends harmoniously into the surrounding rural environment. A diverse planting zone is planned along the eastern edge of the solar panel area to mitigate visual impact on nearby properties. The solar panels and vegetation buffer will also help reduce noise from the adjacent motorway. The Tervakoski project will be connected via medium-voltage underground cables to the Riihiviita project, from where electricity will be transmitted to the national grid via the Forssa–Hikiä 110 kV transmission line. No new overhead lines are planned for the project.
“Many people strongly support placing renewable energy facilities along motorways. This is exactly that kind of project!”
