Background
Huttusenlehto
Sonkajärvi – FinlandAt the end of 2021, Ilmatar started exploring the possibility of building a wind farm in the Huttusenlehto area of Sonkajärvi. A comprehensive preliminary study of the project area was carried out and a land lease for the project area was initiated. Ilmatar started investigating the possibility of integrating solar power into the project on a peat production area near the wind farm in spring 2023.
The wind power project area has an initial area of around 2,700 hectares and the solar power area will cover an area of around 190 hectares. The final number of wind turbines, their placement and the area to be covered by the scheme will be clarified in the coming years during the planning and environmental impact assessment process. The final outcome of the planning process will be influenced by, among other things, studies, opinions, comments and stakeholder consultations during the planning and EIA process.
