Ilmatar is preparing a wind farm with up to 27 wind turbines in the Löytösuo area, located on the western border of Kajaani in Kainuu. The planning area is bordered to the west by the municipal boundary between Kajaani and Pyhäntä and the Piiparinmäki wind power local master plan. In the north, the area is near the municipal border of Siikalatva. The project site is approximately 1.5 km west of the Vuolijoki urban area and over 30 km southwest of Kajaani town center. Part of the Löytösuo area has been designated as a wind power production area in the Kainuu Wind Power Plan 2035.

Current Situtation

The Kajaani City Board approved the planning initiative to begin planning preparations on February 22, 2022. The local master plan process was initiated on June 29, 2022, following the decision of the Kajaani City Board on June 21, 2022 (§ 147). The environmental impact assessment (EIA) process for the Löytösuo wind power project has been completed, and the Kainuu ELY Centre issued its reasoned conclusion on June 20, 2024.

Following the EIA report phase, additional environmental studies have been conducted. The draft plan is expected to be made available for public review in the spring of 2025, when a public hearing will be held.

According to the preliminary schedule, the construction of the wind farm is planned for 2027–2028.
