Ilmatar is preparing a wind farm with up to 13 wind turbines in the Kauhajoki and Kurikka areas of Southern Ostrobothnia. The Harjanneva planning area is located between Ikkeläjärvi and Säkkijärvi, approximately 20 kilometers southeast of Kauhajoki town center. The plan includes up to 10 turbines in the Kauhajoki area, and the possibility of placing three additional turbines on the Kurikka side is under investigation. The Harjanneva area has been designated as a wind power production area in the Southern Ostrobothnia Regional Plan 2050.

Current Situation
The Kauhajoki City Board approved Ilmatar’s planning initiative for the Harjanneva area on November 1, 2021, and the participation and assessment plan (OAS) has been available for public review since February 24, 2022. The Kauhajoki Technical Committee decided on October 31, 2023, to submit the draft plan for public display. The environmental impact assessment (EIA) process for the Harjanneva wind power project has been completed, and the South Ostrobothnia ELY Centre issued its reasoned conclusion on February 23, 2024.
Additional birdlife studies were conducted in 2024–2025, and the planning proposal is planned to be made available for public review during 2025. The project schedule will be refined based on the completion of these additional studies.
According to the preliminary schedule, the construction of the wind farm is planned for 2027–2028.
