Konikallio

The Konikallio wind power project includes a maximum of 15 wind turbines. The area is strongly aligned with the wind power area designated in the regional plan for Pirkanmaa.

A wind measurement campaign was carried out in Konikallio in 2024–2025. Using a 198-meter measurement mast, wind conditions were measured continuously for over a year. The measurements provide reliable data on wind conditions, forming the basis for ongoing planning toward an investment decision.

The EIA procedure for Konikallio was completed in 2024, and a reasoned statement from the coordinating authority has been issued, which has guided additional studies.

The zoning proposals (separate for Ikaalinen and Hämeenkyrö) are planned to be placed on public display in autumn 2025, and approval processes in the municipal councils are planned for early 2026. Each municipality decides on the zoning for its area.

Zoning proposals

The zoning proposals have been updated with changes and additional studies based on feedback from the draft plan phase and the EIA reasoned statement.

The most important changes and additional studies made after the draft plan include:

• The project area boundary has been refined due to changes in turbine locations and considering the 40 dB noise contour.
• Turbine height reduced from 350 meters to 300 meters.
• Turbine locations moved away from groundwater areas and the Vatulanharju–Ulvaanharju formation.
• Distance increased from an uninhabited osprey nest.
• One turbine removed from the Ikaalinen zoning area and one added to the Hämeenkyrö zoning area.
• Feedback from the Pirkanmaa Regional Museum considered in turbine placement, including removal of a mineral extraction area in Ikaalinen.
• Energy supply areas specified.
• Electricity transmission route option B (south) removed.
• Specially important biodiversity areas added to zoning maps.
• Separate Landscape and Cultural Environment Assessment prepared (2025).
• Studies and modeling updated to correspond with the project plan.

The municipal boards of Hämeenkyrö and Ikaalinen will decide on the public display of the zoning plans. When the plans are publicly available, all zoning materials will be accessible electronically on the municipalities’ websites. During the public display period, information sessions will be organized in Hämeenkyrö and Ikaalinen.
