Ilmatar plans to build a solar park on the property Grums Lång 1:63, just over five kilometres north of Grums town.
Lång
Grums – Sweden
The facilty is planned to include solar panels on ground-mounted racks, inverters, step-up transformers, switching stations, substations, energy storage facilities, power lines and communication networks, roads and service buildings. llmatar is applying in parallel for a building permit on the property for the energy storage facility as it is subject to planning permission. The various components of the solar park are required to convert the direct current produced by the solar panels into alternating current and then transport the energy to the regional electricity grid.
The Värmland region is currently in great need of new forms of energy to create sustainable regional development over time and competitiveness and attractiveness. Ilmatar’s goal is to expand the production of renewable energy in Sweden and contribute to the goal of being completely fossil free by 2045. With today’s technology, the planned plant allows for an installed capacity of approximately 300 MW with an annual energy production of approximately 360 GWh. A production of 360 GWh/year corresponds approximately to the electricity consumption of approximately 21,000 houses with an average annual consumption of approximately 15,000 kWh/year.
The public consultation with the County Administrative Board of Värmland and consultations with those affected and the public for the solar park have been carried out in 2024.
Consultation documents are available for download below.
Network concession for line
In order to connect Grums Lång solar park to the overlying grid, Ilmatar intends to apply for a grid licence for a new 130kV power line between the solar park and Ellevio’s regional grid.
In 2025, Ilmatar signed an agreement with Ellevio to carry out a grid investigation. The previous government consultation with the Värmland County Administrative Board and consultations with stakeholders and the public for the grid concession that were carried out in 2024 have been cancelled; instead, a new feasibility study will be carried out by Ellevio to develop suitable alternatives based on their regional grid and connections ponit. There is currently no prescribed alternative, but alternative will be developed after statements from stakeholders have been received during the consultation and processed. After the consultation has been held, a consultation report and environmental impact statement will be developed. Finally, Ellevio will submit an application for a grid concession to the Energy Market Inspectorate (Ei), which is the authority that issues grid concessions.
