Ilmatar Solar Alajärvi Oy is developing an approx. 100 MWp solar park in Alajärvi, South Ostrobothnia.
Alajärvi Louhu 1
Alajärvi – Finland
The solar park consists of three separate solar power areas, located in the Alajärvi Möksy and Louhukangas wind power land use plan areas. By placing solar power in conjunction with wind power, land use efficiency can be maximized, and synergy benefits can be obtained, for example, by utilizing existing electricity transmission systems. Solar power also balances energy production, especially during windless periods. In addition to traditional racks with a fixed tilt angle, racks with a reactive tilt angle (“tracker”) that tilt with the sun will be placed in the Louhu 2 solar power area.
The project’s permitting process has been completed, and the project has legally binding building permits. As the construction of the solar power plant is estimated to take place in 2025-2026, electricity production starts in 2026 at the earliest.
“Developing solar power in wind power areas is very sensible and efficient in terms of land use, as it enables the diversification of renewable energy production without the need for completely new areas for energy production. We are pleased that the municipality has also recognized these benefits and has taken a positive view of the project. The municipality’s support and understanding of land use opportunities have played a key role in promoting the project!” – Project Development Manager Elviira Ritari
