Ilmatar is preparing an energy storage project in connection with the Ii Pahkakoski wind power project. The power of the energy storage system is 50 MW and the energy storage capacity is 100 MWh. The storage is located in the Pahkakoski wind farm area, next to the wind farm’s substation. By placing the energy storage in connection with the wind farm, the already existing infrastructure can be utilized for multiple purposes.
The energy storage can balance the production variation typical for renewable energy. In addition, the system can balance the frequency variation of the network, so that the electricity transmission network reliability remains at a good level. The lifetime of the system is about 15 years, after which the lifetime can be extended by changing the storage modules.

Solkatterna keeps Karlstad thriving
We aim to be an active part of the local society in the areas where we operate, fostering a sense of belonging and engagement. One of the organizations we sponsor is Solkatterna Speedway, in Karlstad in southern Sweden, close to our two projects in Värmland, Lång and Grums. Solkatterna is a club founded in 1966 where volunteer work plays a significant role. – Without our sponsors, there wouldn’t be any speedway in Karlstad, says Christian Nordin, the club’s vice chairman.
