Ilmatar is preparing an energy storage project in connection with the Ypyrinneva solar project. The power of the energy storage system is 12 MW and the energy storage capacity is 24 MWh. The storage is located in the Ypyrinneva solar farm area, next to the farm’s substation. By placing the energy storage close to the solar farm, the already existing infrastructure can be utilized for multiple purposes.
The energy storage can balance the production variation typical for renewable energy. In addition, the system can balance the frequency variation of the network, so that the electricity transmission network reliability remains at a good level. The lifetime of the system is about 15 years, after which the lifetime can be extended by changing the storage modules.

Solkatterna keeps Karlstad thriving

Ilmatar sparks attention at the Swedish parliament
“Grid connections are the most important factor for us to secure right now as a developer of renewable energy production. If we are referred to the regional electricity grids in Sweden, our projects will have to be scaled back. As a country, we cannot afford to do that when we know that all forms of renewable energy are needed,” says Ilmatar’s Robert Wedmo, who held a lunch seminar in the Swedish Parliament in mid-November.
