Ilmatar is preparing a wind farm with a total of 18 wind turbines in the Pielavesi and Kuopio (formerly Maaninka) areas of Northern Savonia. The Vornankorpi planning area is located between Iso-Panka and Petäjäjärvi, bordering the Tervo municipality to the south. The plan includes up to 13 turbines in the Pielavesi area and five in the Kuopio area. In Phase 2 of the Northern Savonia Regional Plan 2040, the Vornankorpi area has largely been designated as a potential wind power area. This page focuses on the Pielavesi section of the project. You can access information about the Kuopio area here.

The Pielavesi Technical Board approved Ilmatar’s planning initiative for the Pielavesi section on February 21, 2023. The environmental impact assessment (EIA) program for the Vornankorpi wind power project was available for public review from August 7 to September 6, 2023, and the coordinating authority issued its statement on the EIA program on October 6, 2023.
If the project continues to progress favorably, the approval of the partial master plan is expected around the turn of 2025–2026.
According to the preliminary schedule, the construction of the wind farm is planned for 2026–2027.
