Est. 260 MWp Total power
Max. 351 Ha Area size
Est. 2031 To be operational

Ilmatar plans to build a solar park on the property Grums Lång 1:63, just over five kilometres north of Grums town.

The facilty is planned to include solar panels on ground-mounted racks, inverters, step-up transformers, switching stations, substations, energy storage facilities, power lines and communication networks, roads and service buildings. llmatar is applying in parallel for a building permit on the property for the energy storage facility as it is subject to planning permission. The various components of the solar park are required to convert the direct current produced by the solar panels into alternating current and then transport the energy to the regional electricity grid.

The Värmland region is currently in great need of new forms of energy to create sustainable regional development over time and competitiveness and attractiveness. Ilmatar’s goal is to expand the production of renewable energy in Sweden and contribute to the goal of being completely fossil free by 2045. With today’s technology, the planned plant allows for an installed capacity of approximately 300 MW with an annual energy production of approximately 360 GWh. A production of 360 GWh/year corresponds approximately to the electricity consumption of approximately 21,000 houses with an average annual consumption of approximately 15,000 kWh/year.

The public consultation with the County Administrative Board of Värmland and consultations with those affected and the public for the solar park have been carried out in 2024.

Consultation documents are available for download below.

Network concession for line

In order to connect the Grums Lång solar park to the overlying grid, Ilmatar intends to apply for a grid licence for a new 130 kV power line between the solar park and the Borgvik station.

The consultation document presents two main route alternatives. At present, there is no recommended alternative, but a recommended alternative will be developed after opinions from those affected have been received during the consultation and processed. The total length of the new power line will be approximately 12-14 kilometres depending on which option is finally selected.

After the consultation, a consultation report and environmental impact assessment will be prepared. Finally, the application for a network licence will be submitted to the Swedish Energy Markets Inspectorate (Ei), which is the authority that issues network licences.

The consultation with the Värmland County Administrative Board and the consultations with stakeholders and the public regarding the grid connection permit have been carried out during 2024.

The consultation phase is completed.
