Background

Ilmatar’s first planned project in Stockholm County is a solar park of approximately 219 hectares in a contiguous area on the property Riddersholm 1:25 near Kapellskär in Norrtälje municipality.

Riddersholm is a significant potential contribution to Stockholm County’s electricity production. The construction conditions and opportunities for connection to the power grid are favourable, and the need for new energy production is substantial. Stockholm County currently uses approximately 21.1 TWh of electricity per year but only produces 2.2 TWh, of which 2 TWh is cogeneration. There is also an energy demand in Norrtälje in general, and near Kapellskär’s port in particular.

With today’s technology, the planned facility will have an installed capacity of approximately 228 MW, providing an annual energy production of about 230 GWh. This corresponds to the electricity consumption of around 11,500 standard houses with an average annual consumption of 20,000 kWh/year. Battery storage will also be built adjacent to the solar park to provide balancing capacity.

The project area is currently dominated by production forest with few known natural and cultural values.
